Slotted spring pins are cylindrical pins rolled from a strip of material with a slot to allow the pin to have some flexibility during insertion. Slotted spring pins are also known as roll pins, selflock pins or "C" pins. They have a longitudinal slot along one side. Due to the chamfered end, the pins can be inserted easily into the hole with a hammer or using automatic placement.

Slotted pins are used for light duty use or where a more rigid connection is required, for example precise location. A solid pin can withstand higher absolute sheer forces than a spiral pin, although without the benefits of flexibility for fatigue resistance.

Spring pins may also be used to join or locate components with pins inserted through concentric holes in the components.
